China has a chance to repeat its achievement from the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing by becoming the most successful nation at this year's Olympics in Tokyo. By the end of day 11 of 16, the country had won 32 gold medals, putting it ahead of the all-time champions, the United States, who had won only 24 gold medals so far. The competition is roughly two-thirds complete, with 339 gold medals awarded. Weightlifting (7), diving (5), and shooting (4) were the sports in which China earned the most gold medals this year (4). Surprise victories, such as Zhang Yufei's gold in the 200m butterfly and another swimming victory in the 4x200m freestyle relay, are included in the medal total.
