Tokyo Olympics 2020: Enekwechi of Nigeria qualifies for shot put final(Men)

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi of Nigeria has qualified for the men's shot put final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

On the Men's Shot Put Qualification table, he placed seventh by launching his implement to a distance of 21.16 meters.

After finishing fourth in Group B, the Nigerian earned a non-automatic qualifying spot for the final. Mostafa Amr of Egypt, who recorded a throw of 21:23m, was ranked ahead of him. Crouser Ryan of the United States qualified for the final with a mark of 22.05 meters, Walsh Tomas of New Zealand – 21.49 meters, Mesud Pezer of Bosnia and Herzegovina – 21.33 meters, Romani Darlan of Brazil – 21.31 meters (SB), and Weir Zane of Italy – 21.25 meters (PB).

Others who made it to the final with a non-automatic qualifying score: Armin Sinancevic of Serbia, Kovac Joe and Peyton Otterdahl of the United States, Kyle Blingnaut of South Africa, and Gill Jacko of New Zealand are among the qualifiers.

Enekwachi is the reigning African champion in the shot put and a silver medalist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Enekwechi is a 12-time All-American, five-time NCAA medallist, and four-time Big Ten champion at Purdue. He is also the 2019 African Games champion and the reigning Nigerian National Sports Festival champion. He is also a volunteer assistant coach with the Boilermakers.

Meanwhile, Patience George of Team Nigeria was eliminated from contention in the women's 400 meters heats of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday. George finished last in heat 1 of the event at the Olympic Stadium, clocking 52.41 seconds.

With a time of 52.52, the 29-year-old Rio 2016 Games semi-finalist did not give it her all, staying behind the group and failing to launch a threat.

She'd probably give up on winning an individual medal in the race since that she hasn't been able to run under 51 seconds in the last five years.

Her best performance in recent years was a 50.76 in Beijing in 2015.
