Tokyo Olympics 2020: Medal Table for Tokyo Olympics by Gold Medal
China has a chance to repeat its achievement from the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing by becoming the most successful nation at this year's Olympics in Tokyo.
By the end of day 11 of 16, the country had won 32 gold medals, putting it ahead of the all-time champions, the United States, who had won only 24 gold medals so far.
The competition is roughly two-thirds complete, with 339 gold medals awarded.
Weightlifting (7), diving (5), and shooting (4) were the sports in which China earned the most gold medals this year (4).
Surprise victories, such as Zhang Yufei's gold in the 200m butterfly and another swimming victory in the 4x200m freestyle relay, are included in the medal total.
Russia and the United Kingdom are ranked fifth and sixth in terms of gold medals, respectively, however, both countries have a large amount of silver and bronze medals, as shown in the graph.
Australia, Japan, and South Korea are among the top ten non-European countries.
Tomorrow, the latter two will compete in the baseball semifinals for a chance to win gold in the sport, which is extremely popular in both countries.
South Korea is in tenth place, just above New Zealand, which has won six gold, four silver, and five bronze medals thus far.
