Tokyo Olympics: Team Nigeria Contend Over Samsung Phone

According to sources the Nigeria Olympic Committee has given branded Samsung phones to the ten Nigerian athletes who have been disqualified from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Following a failure to meet anti-doping rules, the Athletics Integrity Unit barred 10 Nigerian competitors from competing in the track and field sports of the 2020 Olympics on Wednesday.

After failing to complete the required three out-of-competition exams, the ten athletes were declared ineligible.

The PUNCH reported on Friday that the athletes did not receive the Samsung Galaxy S21 phones that were provided to all Olympic participants as gifts.

However, the NOC said in a statement on Friday that the phones were supplied to the participants after authorisation from the International Olympic Committee was obtained.

According to the NOC, ineligible athletes were provided their phones after receiving authorisation to do so.

“The International Olympic Committee has finally granted Team Nigeria's request for the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G given to all athletes who qualified and are residents at the Olympic Village to be given to her 10 athletes who were declared ineligible to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” the NOC said in a statement on Friday.

“In regards to your athletes who will not compete in the Tokyo Olympics, onas Brun, Junior Project Manager, National Olympic Committee Relations/National Olympic Committee Services, was reported in the NOC statement as saying, "In light of the current information received, I confirm that you can still go ahead and distribute phones to the athletes."
